Should I only read the first 4 Vampire Diaries Books and stop there?

I've been doing a little research and apparently the newer vampire diaries books(5-onward) are totally different from the original four and are not worth the read. Should I just buy the first four books and read those? Will the ending in the fourth book give me enough closure? (No major spoilers please. Thanks.)
