How can I get my 3G icon back on my status bar?

I have an HTC Inspire. I have a widget to show when I'm using my mobile network and when I'm not, but I also rely on that little up and down arrows icon on my status bar to tell me when it's on or available. After my friend played with my phone today, it's disappeared, and I want it back!
